Ralph Thoburn Junior
Position: Partner
Qualifications: Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Registered to carry out audits and authorized to give Financial advice.
Experience & specialisms: Ralph has experience of working closely with a number of owner-managed businesses. He provides an all round service from tax mitigation to wealth creation, management reporting to planning and financial decision making. Ralph is also the Regional Director of the Probiz Network of Accountants as well as an AVN\DUBS Mastery Graduate in Business Development. Ralph has been involved in the financing of a number of British Films. He is one of the firms two Penn Champions for new business/business expansion and tax planning. Ralph worked for a London firm of Chartered Accountants prior to joining the firm in 1989.
Outside work: Ralph would argue that his main area of expertise is bridge. Equally he enjoys playing most sports with an appalling level of ability, although you will find his skiing prowess is world class if you meet him in a bar at the foot of the mountain. He is married to Fiona with three children.
Ian Montgomery
Position: Trust Manager
Qualifications: Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
Experience & specialisms: Ian has over 30 years experience in dealing with Family Trusts and Deceased Estates. He also deals with the personal tax of high net worth/earning clients. Ian has a keen interest in computers and how various pieces of software can be used to speed-up work and to provide information to assist the office in dealing with a client's affairs.
Outside work: Ian is a keen amateur photographer and he and his wife, Joan, have given talks on their holidays abroad in Russia, China, a river cruise on the Danube and a safari holiday in Zambia.
Ian also has an interest in gardening.
With two daughters, one married, he is also family minded and a lot of weekends are spent visiting them.
Ian Turnbull
Position: Accounts production team member
Qualifications: Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales
Experience & specialisms: Ian is currently applying for the registered auditor qualification and has been a member of the team for several years. He was appointed our audit and account manager on 1st January 2008. Ian is another of the firms AVN / DUBS Mastery Graduates in Business Development.
Outside work: Ian enjoys socializing with friends on a good night out, playing football and leading the Anchor Boys section in a local Boys Brigade.
Fiona Thoburn
Position: Corporate Tax Advisor
Qualifications: Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales
Experience & specialisms: Fiona did her training with city accountants Dixon Wilson before joining BDO Binder Hamlyn in 1989 and working in their corporate tax department. She moved to Thoburn & Chapman in 1994 and is primarily involved in company taxation ensuring our corporate clients pay the correct tax and not a penny more. She also has experience of estate and Trust matters and personal taxation.
Outside work: In her spare time Fiona is a mother of three, married to an extremely supportive and dynamic husband, and is a pretty mean bridge player. She enjoys a bit of keep fit when she can, is an excellent ballroom dancer and occasionally blows the dust off her bicycle.
